LLB (Hons) Law

Categories

This LLB law degree combines a balanced and stimulating legal education with practical skills and work-based learning. You will gain knowledge of the law and its application in the real world, learn how to analyse and solve problems, and be able to present logical, reasoned arguments. This emphasis on skills means you’ll be ready for the challenges of any career.

This LLB (Hons) Law degree is recognised as a qualifying law degree (QLD) for professional purposes in the UK. Recognised by Solicitors Regulation Authority

This means it satisfies the academic stage of training set by the Solicitors Regulation Authorityand the Bar Standards Board for progression to the vocational stage – the Legal Practice Course (LPC) to become a solicitor, or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to become a barrister. If you have already decided on a career as a solicitor, you should consider our LLB (Hons) Legal Practice. Many students combine law with another subject because it provides broader career options, while still being a qualifying law degree. Two thirds of your time will be devoted to studying law and one third for criminology.

What you will study

You will study seven foundation subjects such as Criminal Law, Contract and Problem Solving, Tort and Transactional Learning, Land Law, and Law of the European Union. You can also study optional modules such as Commercial and Consumer Law, Family Law, Employment Law, Cyber Law, Sports Law and Equality Law. There is also an extended research project in the final year.

We encourage personal development through practical options and employability initiatives. As part of the work-based learning module, Learning through the Workplace, you will gain experience in a number of career settings, perhaps in our Legal Advice Clinic in Cardiff, advising clients on legal issues. On completion of appropriate modules, you can gain exemption from Part 2 of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), enabling member status

Foundation Year

The LLB (Hons) Law is also available as a four year course including an integrated Foundation Year, and is designed for students who do not currently meet admissions criteria for direct entry onto the law degree.
